Violence is a learned behavior.  It can be unlearned.

Turn Off the Violence Day is being observed this year on different days in different parts of the country.  Officially, Turn Off the Violence Day will be October 10, but we look forward to a time when every day is Turn Off the Violence Day.  Ideas to observe the day. |  An outstanding school project from Rush Creek Elementary

The mission of Turn Off the Violence is to educate and inspire people to prevent violence in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.

Turn Off the Violence started as a multi-disciplinary, grassroots violence prevention campaign in 1991 in Minnesota.  Since then, thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations have participated in efforts to spread the campaign and reduce violence in all its ugly forms... physical violence,  sexual  violence,  verbal  violence, domestic violence, gang violence, violence in entertainment, hate crimes, and playground violence.

Turn Off the Violence has been praised for making violence prevention “do-able” for average people, people of all ages, people of all walks of life.

Through our Turn Off the Violence Coalition, we share knowledge, resources, and strength to make changes in our lives and, ultimately, in society. We invite you to join us in beginning to turn off the violence in our lives...  one day at a time.

This website is the "seed" of the Turn Off the Violence campaign.  It is the results of collaboration among many organizations across the country.

It is our gift to you in the hopes that you will "plant the seed" in your own home, in your own workplace, in your own community and you will nurture it so that it grows.

Some day together we may reap the harvest in a world that thinks of violence only as the last resort, not the only option, ... or the best.
