The
alternatives to violent entertainment are as numerous as the leaves on a
tree!
Teacher Sandy Wright asked her students to think
of as many alternatives to violent entertainment as they could.
Ideas included: "Ride your bike" and "Bake cookies."

HANDS ARE NOT FOR
HITTING. PUT YOUR HELPING HAND HERE.
"Hands are not for
hitting" was an idea from the Domestic Abuse Coalition. This
group used a large piece of oilcloth to make a mural and then they asked
everyone that walked by to outline their hands and sign their names as a
pledge to never use their hands for hurting. |

Despite the cold rainy
weather on Turn Off the Violence night in 1992, about 50 people turned out
for the Turn Off the Violence rally in Hopkins, Minnesota. Featured
speakers included a representative from the Minnesota Governor's office, a
businessman whose daughter had been murdered, a City Council member, and the
police chief.
