Westland, Michigan's Department of Parks and Recreation hosts an annual Turn Off the Violence Night that was attended by more than 1500 people last year.  Activities included a dizzying array of alternatives to violent entertainment, including:
kids musical groups, lip singers, animal shows, hayrides, large inflatable slides, arts & crafts, face painting, a basketball shootout, barrel races, astronomy shows,

... Field Hockey, 3 on 3 Basketball Games, Inflated Titanic which spanned over 120' long and 45' high. Snow cones and popcorn and juice boxes were available to all those attending.

Thanks to tremendous contributions of time and resources by community organizations, Westland's event is free to everyone!

Wavne County Parks supplied the showmobile stage and hayrides. The D.A.R.E. Association supplied all the hot dogs & ran a hockey play station. Toarmina's donated all the pizza, supplying at least 50 large boxes. Home Depot donated all the pumpkins for the decorating challenge. The Fire Department prepared an obstacle course.    More of Westland's event.
